Host Odisha clinched a double by winning titles in both team and doubles events of the Indian Open Gateball Tournament, which concluded here at Kalinga Stadium today. In the team event, Odisha Red beat Odisha Blue 13-8 in the final to emerge champions. Earlier in the semifinals, Odisha Red got the better of Punjab, while Odisha Blue edged out Odisha Juniors.
Odisha`s Suresh Kandi and Avishek Mohanty won the doubles crown, defeating statemates Sanjay Patnaik and Hara Prasad Patnaik 16-9 in the summit clash. Earlier in the semifinals, the Kandi-Mohanty duo downed Prince Choudhury and Sanjib (Himachal Pradesh), while the Patnaik pair outplayed Japan opponents J Dan and T Dan.
As many as 20 teams, including one from Japan took part in the two-day tournament, which was organised by Odisha Gateball Union, under the auspices of Indian Gateball Union. KIIT secretary R N Senapati and Urban Department Special Secretary Dilip Kumar Singh handed over the trophies at the closing function.
